Update - SSO and Hosting Provider

I’ve managed to get the original IDPA application integrated with the main site including SSO (single sign on) functionality. If you had an account on here before you’ll have to sign-up for a new one since the old data is gone.

Speaking of old data, most if it is gone. I managed to save the last match. Hopefully I won’t make any more major changes that loose data.

I’ve also moved my hosting over to Heroku. I wasn’t totally thrilled about paying $35/month AND having to manage my own server. Right now Heroku is FREE and it is a managed service so no sysadmin headaches.

Live Beta - 2

We had 34 shooters at the Arms Room this evening and used the IDPA live scoring software on two out of three squads. Everyone who entered scores provided positive feedback. Maybe next week we can do this with all three squads and avoid having to manually enter scores after the match.

There are still some kinks to work out with the registration process, but overall it went fairly smoothly this evening. One improvement I’m planning is to add some sort of pre-registration. At any rate, thanks to everyone who participated in the score keeping process.

Single Sign On

Well, it looks like I finally managed to get SSO working. The IDPA site still has it’s own separate sign on since I still haven’t integrated it with the main site. There just isn’t enough time in the day to work on this stuff. Oh, and I finally have the blog working on the home page, which makes it much easier to do these update reports.

My plan is to get the IDPA site integrated with the SSO stuff, and maybe add the ability to sign in with twitter, linked in, etc. Once that is done there are several improvements to make plus I’d like to start prototyping the IPSC and Steel Challeng sites.

Happy Valentine's Day

We used the live scoring capabilities and mobile based forms for the first time in a live match at The Arms Room in League City, TX. Being Valentine’s Day we figured it would be a good night to try things out because everyone would obviously be out with their sweethearts. Boy were we wrong. We had a pretty full match with 35 shooters. We did not have enough signal in bays 2 and 3 which made us almost abandon the beta test completely. However, we did manage to get some of the scoring done using the website and received positive feedback afterwards from those who went and viewed the final scores online. I’m going to call the evening a success and hope we can get the signal problem fixed soon.
